Maharashtra Startups: From Research to Customer Access

Explore Mumbai and Pune incubation resources. Plan research handover, customer accounts, collaborator access, and ownership before a startup launch.

A research prototype can have several contributors and account owners. Before it becomes a customer product, record who controls the technology and who controls access.

Mumbai and Pune offer different routes for research and business incubation. Use the resources below to ask specific questions about your venture. Then prepare a separate plan for customer accounts.

The IIT Bombay reference describes a published support arrangement. It does not establish a current funding entitlement.

Venture Center lists scientific and business services. Bhau describes several incubation modes. Choose based on the help required, not a perceived institutional ranking.

Separate three forms of ownership

A contributor can have permission to use a repository without owning the underlying intellectual property.

A company can own a domain while another person controls its recovery email. A researcher can operate an experiment without permission to export participant data.

Record these boundaries separately:

BoundaryQuestionAppropriate evidence
Intellectual propertyWhat may the company use or commercialize?Applicable agreements and institution decisions
Service ownershipWho controls hosting, domains, and recovery?Provider ownership and administrator records
Application accessWho may use each product function?Membership, role, and authorization tests

Ask the institution's authorized team about intellectual-property and commercialization requirements. Administrator access does not answer those questions.

Inventory the prototype's dependencies

List repositories, domains, cloud services, datasets, experiment systems, and identity providers.

For each service, name the current owner and the intended operating organization. Record whether ownership can transfer through the provider's supported process.

Do not transfer a personal password. Add the approved organization or owner through the service's controls.

Download the account-handover register. Keep secrets outside the document.

Move collaborators into explicit roles

A researcher, external adviser, pilot customer, and support operator have different access needs.

Create an access list for each group. Give collaborators only the resources needed for the agreed work.

When the collaboration ends, remove membership and review credentials, integrations, and recovery paths. A removed repository role does not revoke a cloud key.

Use the university handover guide for the wider transition.

Design the first customer workspace

Do not reuse the laboratory administrator account for a customer demonstration.

Create a synthetic customer organization. Give it a restricted operator and a separate administrator.

Test what each role can see and change. Confirm that the customer cannot open another organization's records.

If an external adviser needs temporary review access, give that access an owner and an end date.

Prepare a commercialization meeting brief

Describe the research result, product hypothesis, evidence, team, and unresolved dependency.

Ask for one specific decision. Examples include the correct institutional process or the support needed to validate a prototype.

Use this worksheet:

Use synthetic demonstrations. Do not include private research data in a general introductory message.

Review provider portability before launch

A prototype may use accounts chosen by one student or research group. Review whether the company can operate and export those records later.

Confirm the account identifiers, linked sign-in methods, session behavior, and recovery route. Do not assume that protocol compatibility makes a migration automatic.

The authentication-provider scorecard helps compare evidence before committing to a provider.

Ask the NamoID team for account-design help

NamoID can help Maharashtra founders plan customer authentication and review how collaborators become product users.

Contact our engineers in Slack with your stack and a sanitized account diagram. We can help you plan the integration and access tests.

Our team can discuss a focused session with an incubator cohort, subject to fit and availability.

NamoID does not determine intellectual-property ownership. It is independent of SINE, IIT Bombay, Venture Center, and COEP's Bhau Institute.
